Show Me the Money!

I have taken on a disturbing double life. By evening, I am a creative, enthusiastic director but by the harsh light of day I become Scrooge McDuck.

We are honored and privileged to accept a grant for our production of The Little Dog Laughed by Douglas Carter Beane from the Nevada Arts Council. We worked very hard writing the grant: attending workshops, preparing the budget, and rigorously studying demographics and statistics. What we have discovered from this process is that writing the grant was the easy part - raising the matching funds is hard; at least harder than I thought it would be. When you live and breathe a project as closely as we all do in this theatre company, it is easy to get lost in our reality. We are all quite surprised when people outside of our weird little world don't seem to have the same passion. I find myself impatiently explaining yet again WHY what we do is so vital to the community.

Besides the ongoing fight to persuade John Q Public that we are an organization infinitely more worthwhile than Prime Time TV, I struggle enormously with the absurd task of fundraising. It is absolutely unnerving to move from a purely artistic focus to one more and more ruled by money-- unnerving and exciting at the same time because of what it means. It means that we are moving into a new realm. We are building the foundation of subsistence. Every dollar raised is another rung on the ladder of excellence. It means quality costumes, better scenery, more innovative lighting, better pay for actors and crew, and the ultimate realization of our dream.

Our challenge, as always, is balance. We must foster pure artistic creation and the means to support it all at the same time. In the meantime, I will continue to revel in the amazing performances given by our actors in evening rehearsals and wake up early to build our monetary foundation each day. Just call me Ms. McDuck.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! A donation of any size will contribute to the success of our show and allow us to meet our matching challenge of $2,800.00. Donating is easy! Simply go to the donations page on this site and provide your payment information. Don't want to donate with a credit card? No problem. Contact me at 702-275-7404 and I will come and pick up your cash or check donation. Thank you for supporting the Arts!
